Biography

Pianist | Chamber musician | Arranger | Teacher

Born 1992 in East-Polish Rzeszów Maciej Skarbek received his first musical education at the age of eight, studying with Żanna Parchomowska among others, who is a close friend and mentor to him to this day. In his youth he was often given the chance to prove his considerable musical maturity, be it through awards and laudations in competitions or performances as orchestral soloist.

In 2011 Maciej Skarbek began his concert studies in Vienna with Stefan Vladar, later with Roland Batik, Jura Margulis and Konstantin Semilakovs. Especially the music of Robert Schumann was put into focus for the pianist during this time and he is still conducting research of Schumann´s piano music today. In 2019 he finished his Master’s degree with honours.

Work as a chamber musician is Maciej Skarbek´s main point of focus, his repertoire includes works of most diverse forms, epochs and instrumentations. For him chamber music not only includes concerts, but also studio recordings, radio performances, international concert tours as well as chamber music competitions, in which his various formations were able to collect multiple awards and honours.

His musical journey allowed Maciej Skarbek to work with renowned artists like Paul Badura-Skoda, Menahem Pressler, Hatto Beyerle, Natalia Gutman, Leonidas Kavakos, Rainer Schmidt and Pavel Vernikov, to name just a few. He was able to play the best concert halls all throughout Asia and Europe like the concert houses of Vienna and Berlin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, Jerusalem Music Centre, Megaron Athens or the Musikverein Vienna. Furthermore Maciej Skarbek´s work has involved arranging for chamber music formations, creating piano reductions and pianistic theatre work, at the Volkstheater Vienna for example, but also for the youngest audiences in children´s operas of the Jeunesse.

Maciej Skarbek has also worked as a teacher and accompanist for multiple years. That work led him to the Music and Arts Private University of Vienna in 2019 and to the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in 2020. At the Oberschützen Institute of that University he has since been employed as Senior Lecturer for accompaniment, meanwhile also for piano. This work includes musical training, preparation for competitions and auditions as well as general literature studies for all instruments from violin to percussion.
